Zero Chippenham is a voluntary group dedicated to preventing dangerous climate change and the destruction of our natural environment.  We share a vision of a world in which there are zero carbon emissions, waste and pollution.

Meet the team

Dr Nick Murry
Chair

Nick is a sustainability and climate change professional with experience in both sustainability management and environmental consultancy.  Nick has worked in public and private sectors, in the UK and internationally, most recently advising organisations on their path to Net Zero. He is also an Associate Lecturer in Sustainability and Environmental Management at Bath Spa University.

Nick is a Wiltshire Councillor and Chippenham Town councillor.

Alex Locton
vice chair

Alex has over 15 years’ experience delivering renewable energy and zero carbon technology including work for some of the most prestigious clients in the country. His experience has included senior roles with British Gas and T H WHITE, consultancy with Good Energy and as well as running his own business in this time. Alex uses his  expertise as an advisor to the Community Solar scheme and other Zero Chippenham projects.

Dr Karen Simpson/Jones

Karen is an experienced water professional and has recently completed her Doctorate in water efficiency.

Karen is a youth leader with the girl guides in Chippenham. Karen jointly coordinates Zero Chippenham’s community outreach activities.

Ruth Lloyd

Community Outreach

Ruth works in the charity sector and is passionate about nature and our beautiful countryside. One of the first to benefit from the Zero Chippenham Community solar scheme with solar PV and an iBoost, Ruth is a former Chippenham Town councillor, and jointly coordinates the groups community outreach activities.

Matthew Short

Matthew Short
Community Solar, Air Quality, Energy Efficiency

Matthew spent 20 years as a professional electrical, electronics, and software engineer, before switching career to start a chocolate business. Their business put sustainability at the core, reaching net zero, and joining the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL). A Chippenham Town Councillor. Matthew now uses his engineering skills and experiences of solar and battery installations as joint administrator of the Zero Chippenham Community Solar scheme, Air Quality monitoring project, and Home Energy Efficiency projects

Declan Baseley

Declan Baseley
Community Solar

Declan is an advocate for change, environmental and social justice. He is a Chippenham Town Councillor, and was Chippenham’s Deputy Mayor May 2022-2023, and Mayor May 2023 – 2024. In those roles he’s supported charitable groups, schools, and organisations across Chippenham.

Declan has worked for Chippenham based Good Energy and is joint administrator of the Zero Chippenham Community Solar scheme.

Kerry

Kerry Linde
Community Outreach

Kerry is known as the ‘keeper of the tree’. As joint coordinator of the Community Outreach team, Kerry engages with people of all ages using the tree to capture thoughts on climate and the environment. More than this the tree is a valuable barometer of knowledge and mood and can help to shape policy. Kerry is a social researcher, with experience supporting charitable foundations with their environmental programmes, and was previously a trustee for New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future, a charity promoting sustainability in rural communities in Kentucky, USA.

Community Outreach

Jan is a key member at the Sheldon Road methodist church. Through the Zero Chippenham Solar scheme Jan helped to reduce the lunchtime meal costs at the church, and organised a very successful sustainability event in the church community space, bringing together groups from across Chippenham.

Thermal Camera project lead

A former professional engineer and technical manager, Adrian has converted his home in Chippenham to close to net zero. A fascinating and expert speaker, Adrian is always willing to share his knowledge and experience to help others on home and energy efficiency, helping others on their journey to net zero.

Zero Waste Project Lead

Sue has been a member of Zero Chippenham since its inception. As founder of the Mad About Waste Community group Sue undertook various community projects to tackle food waste, textile waste and single use plastic. In her professional life Sue has worked for a number of environmental organisations including the National Trust and the Natural Environment and Research Council. Sue is an economist by training and part time fitness instructor.
