Air Quality Langley Road April 2025

Chippenham Air Quality April 2025

Our Air Quality readings for April 2025 are now in for Langley Road, Rowden Hill, and Marshfield Road. Our Wood Lane sensor is temporarily out of action.

Of particular interest is the Langley Road sensor which is adjacent to the Langley Park Housing development. This development has caused considerable concern to nearby residents due to the hot dry conditions in April, ongoing ground works using recycled materials from the demolition, and dust with unknown materials blowing over residential properties.

The Langley Road sensor has been in place over a year. Comparisons with April 2024 show a 59% increase in PM2.5 particulate levels from the April 2024 average, increasing from 11.23ug/m3 to 17.9ug/m3.

The PM2.5 monthly average of 17.9ug/m3 is above the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines which state that annual average concentrations of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 µg/m3, while 24-hour average exposures should not exceed 15 µg/m3 more than 3 – 4 days per year.

It is however below the current UK government limit of 20ug/m3 annual average.

Marshfield Road had the highest average for April of 20.8ug/m3, and Rowden Hill was lower than previous measurements at 15ug/m3.
